Wee Reds P7s at Currie Tournament

Four of the Misfits team at the recent RedsFest 7s Tournament (25 May 2024) were no strangers to Mains Park, having all started their playing days for the Wee Reds and Young Reds. Veteran and current Reds player Mark Green featured along with three relative youngsters (David Goudie, Simon Thomson and Ali McKinnon) who are shown below (circled) in a photo taken at the Currie Mini Tournament in the year 2000. This was the Wee Reds P7 team that also featured current Reds powerhouse Ross Martin and Ross Doneghan, brother of current Reds’ player/assistant coach Michael, who went on to play English Championship rugby with both Rotherham Titans and London Scottish.

The photo above shows Scotland’s Glenn Metcalfe with the Calcutta Cup (won at Murrayfield on a rain soaked day in 2000) and the Wee Reds P7 team:

We’ve dug out the image below from our Youth archives, showing how the Wee Reds P7s drew the final of the Currie Minis Tournament in April 2000, winning all three pool matches before beating Edinburgh Accies in the semis and then drawing (after extra time) with Boroughmuir in the final. Glenn Metcalfe even signed the sheet!
