On Saturday the Reds 2nd XV travelled through to Watsonians and came out winners in a last-minute thriller for Halloween!! That’s not to say our try scoring captain Cammy Murrie is anything out of a Halloween film though!!

The visitors started well with good momentum from the kick off and caught the home boys off guard when our backs pulled off a move resulting in centre, Fraser Miller running under the posts to score after 2 minutes. He converted his own score.

However, after that we seemed to lose our way with poor possession and losing our own line-outs as well as knocking on from simple passing. This isn’t taking away from the home boys who totally capitalised on this and ran in three unanswered tries and a conversion before half time finishing the half at 17-7 to Watsonians.

We started the second half well with some great strong runs especially from our backs controlled from the returning No. 10, Conor Findlay who controlled the kicking game for us gaining huge metres. However, it was full back Will Turpie that finished off one of those moves to score after 8 minutes of the second half. The same story happened again as the first half with the home side using their vast bench advantage to go over own try line on 11 minutes and again on 16 giving them, what looked like an impossible lead of 31-14.

The battle continued, will some big hits coming in from both sides but the Linlithgow boys kept up the pressure and turned this into more points through faster play to our outsides and moving the Watsonians team around. Captain Cammy Murrie scored after 24 minutes and immediately after the restart, our scrum half, Cyrus Knox finished off a brilliant team play scoring again. More fast flowing passing saw us level the score at 31 points apiece through flying wing Alfie Woods on 32 minutes and everyone thought it was going to finish as a draw.

All credit to the Linlithgow squad of 17 who totally came together and after a huge amount of pressure, resulting in the home side’s second row being yellow carded for killing the ball, we saw Captain fantastic, Cammy Murrie crash over for the winning try in the last play of the game. Final insult to Watsonians saw Fraser Miller kick the 2 points for us to walk away winning 38-31.

Wow, what a game!!
