Brave effort from the Reds 2nd XIV (yes, 14)

Report by Graeme Miller

Linlithgow 2nd’s took on Heriots 2A’s on Saturday at Goldenarce and were beaten 45-0 with the game being abandoned 15 minutes into the second half for safety reasons. It wasn’t the fog across the pitches at Goldenacre but the lack of numbers left in the Linlithgow team! We travelled through to Edinburgh with only 14 players to start with, and then with stand off, Fraser Miller going off after 30 minutes with concussion and then outside centre, Mark Green retiring with a shoulder injury 10 minutes into the second half, Heriots agreed to call the game.

The Heriots boys scored 6 unanswered tries in the first half through their backs using their extra man, despite the Linlithgow team creating some great phases of play. Special mention should go to Fin Chadwick who managed some great individual breakouts and Alex Hall who definitely showed fantastic footwork on the wing beating Heriots players more often than not. Our 7 man pack also stuck in well which came from good lineout ball with hooker Kyran Lee connecting well with Neil Lockhart.

Well done to all the Linlithgow boys who definitely showed true determination throughout the game and to Alan Dowell who came out of retirement to help on the medical bag.

True praise came from their coach and the referee’s assessor who both said, with a full team and bench, you guys would have been closer to the scoring!
