Wee Reds Minis big day!

Saturday 22 February 2025

Saturday was our first ever Minis Sponsor Day. You might remember back in November that the initial date for this event and the corresponding Hamilton Bulls fixture  had to be postponed due to arctic weather and frozen pitches. With weather warnings all last week and a cancelled Minis Winter Festival at Stirling County for the Sunday,  we were nervously watching the weather reports again, but we beat the odds and the sun shone all Saturday!

As players from the Wee Reds Micros to P7 arrived at the clubhouse and collected their amazing programs, an impromtu game of touch began on the patio area. In the true spirit of Linlithgow Rugby Club, everyone was welcome, everyone got stuck in and everyone was smiling. Meanwhile breakaway groups were watching the 1st XV warm up from the comfort of the scrum machine and the hedges and there was a real buzz in the air as they all discussed the Reds chances – certain P5s were quoted as saying “we would win by 100 points”, whilst others looked on and debated ball presentation and previous Minis’s games.

Just before KO , our mascots lined up and then proudly ran on to the pitch with the 1st XV whilst other Minis formed a guard of honour.

The mascots and first XV lined up on the half way line for a photo op before the mascots turned and sprinted for the gate and the match got underway…

…the Wee Reds retired to watch a rampant Reds side score 8 tries against a very competent and physical Hamilton Bulls team.

Half time rolled around and the Minis and Micros wolfed down some hot dogs whilst they excitedly discussed the answers to the questions in the programs, compared the photos in the programs to the players on pitch and their own team mates and argued over whose autographs they most wanted to get as well as their predictions for the final score.

By the time the final whistle blew with Reds the convincing victors, the atmosphere around the pitch and in the clubhouse was electric. They lined up to fist bump and congratulate their senior team as they exited the pitch and then swarmed them for autographs. The Micros and Minis loved watching and getting to know the 1st XV and there was no denying that the 1st XV players were loving the attention!

I’d like to thank all of you parents and players for your support on the day as we can’t host such events without you. I would also like to make a special mention to the creative genius that is Hannah Devlin for the spectacular program she put together for us.

On Sunday it was the turn of the Wee Reds Micros and as the photos show, they made the most of it. The Micros consist of youngsters from Primary 1 to Primary 3 inclusive and they have their own HOME Tournament coming up on Sunday 9th March.
