The P7 Reds visited the North Berwick Rugby Festival on Sunday on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year. The Festival was 2 leagues of 4 teams each, with the winner of each league playing in the Final, and it was the 1st time the teams were playing to P7 rules.
First up was Edinburgh Accies and it was fast and furious, but with the Reds superior rucking they won 3 – 0.
Next we played GHA who had travelled all the through from Glasgow to play. This game was closer but the Reds won 2 – 0.
The Reds were then immediately into their next game and with no rest and the blazing sunshine the boys were looking hot and tired. This game was against our hosts, North Berwick, who had been cooling off under the shade of the trees and who had also won 2 games. The game kicked off and it was the Reds that scored the 1st try, putting us at the top of the league and forcing NB to chase the game. The Reds scored a 2nd try in the last minute of the game to secure a 2 – 0 win.
The Reds had won their league with out conceding a single try.
The Final was against Dunbar. The Reds kicked off but it was Dunbar that scored the 1st try, the Reds scored next and the score was 1- 1 at half time. The 2nd half was frantic but the Reds emerged the victors with a 3 – 2 win.
Linlithgow were crowned North Berwick P7 Champions 2023, and with a 2nd place in the Gala Rugby Festival 3 weeks before it has been a great start to the season for the P7s.
